Here is a beauty from one of the oldest working mines in the Midwest. This barite is high luster on both sides, which is atypical for Linwood. Typically one side is etched and one is high luster depending on orientation in the pocket. Linwood lies right in the heart of the Mississippi Valley, a major conduit for the hydrothermal fluids responsible for the deposition of the famous Upper Mississippi Valley Zn-Pb district minerals. So, it’s not surprising that quarries and mines in the Mississippi Valley occasionally have some excellent minerals. There are a few minimal scuffs on the piece that are seen with a 10x loop. This is one of the better single crystals I’ve seen from Linwood. Much better in person. |

A unique cluster of thick gold to gray-blue barites over a deeper golden scalenohedral calcite. Smaller gold calcites are conservatively placed around the specimen. The barites show nice form and are concentrically zoned. A neat piece from this world famous fluorite deposit. |

Here’s a very nice barite ball on a plate of sphalerite. Very lustrous cubes of fluorite are liberally placed all over the sphalerite plate and accenting the barite. Very minimal dings are seen on few fluorites and sphalerites with a loop. |
